Mark asks…
Cheap Nice Hotel in Arizona?
I’m getting married at the end of November through the Justice of the Peace, at this point we don’t have time to plan a wedding. Still we want to move it together the right way. Now, we need a nice place to stay at for 2 days, doesn’t matter where, but we would prefer something cheap, our budget is a little limited. Any help?
AZwedMan answers:
The Hotel Saint Michael in Prescott mentioned by a poster above is a neat old historic place right on the downtown square (one of my Prescott favorites as well).
Another place that would make an ideal, and not overly expensive, romantic two night get-away is the historic (and beautifully restored) La Posada hotel in Winslow. This was one of the last of the great Santa Fe railroad hotels and is considered the masterpiece of famed architect Mary Jane Colter (who designed many of the famous lodges at Grand Canyon). The rooms are very very nice and the hotel is surrounded by gardens, has a beautiful lobby and many little hidden corners and patios. It also has one of the best restuarants in the southwest.
Two nights there would be a great little get-away and if you feel like doing something during the day, you are right next to Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Parks.
Another possibility would be the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This is a very beautiful place that would make for a memorable visit and in Novemeber crowds would be lower. While the grand 1905 El Tovar hotel would be great, it is also the most expensive. But rooms at the historic Bright Angel Lodge are quite affordable (and right by the rim). Rooms at Maswik and Yavapai Lodges are fairly reasonable too. The lodges at Grand Canyon are all ran by Xanterra and you can make reservations online (see link below).

Mandy asks…
I need to find a bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding! I’m having no luck at all?
It has to be turqouise and yellow… and modest.. (has to have sleeves and has to be at least knee length.. it has to be pretty cheap too, because I’m only 15 and I’m buying it myself.. help me.. oh and its in Arizona.. if there are any places around Mesa or Glendale?
AZwedMan answers:
Consider going to a fabric store and selecting a pattern and having someone make the dress for you. That way you can find just the design that you want and you can pick out the fabrics.

Do you know who you trust with your wedding planning? The months preceding the big event are usually very busy, and besides enthusiasm and excitement you’ll have to cope with stress and pressure too. Wedding planning proves meticulous and very demanding, but you should not make such preparations a big source of trouble. Keep the process simple in order not to get entangled in the arrangements. Some couples usually do a bit of reading on the Internet and even get an online wedding planner to increase their efficiency. There are plenty of good tools and online guides in which you find priceless tips for a ceremony and an event to remember.
Info lists and checklists, this is what you’ll find in any good online wedding planner, and most of the time, such materials are free of charge. Good guides will also give you some hints about how to choose a wedding coordinator to do all the preparations for you. You can thus prevent to place your trust in the wrong person particularly if you want to throw a big party. In case you choose the small event idea, the organizing part will be easier and definitely more cost effective. Intimate weddings are seldom pompous because people would rather be with family and friends on such occasions.
Consider the online wedding planner your support for creativity because when you are not bound by too tight social conventions, you have more room to improvise and turn your dreams into reality. One piece of information that you won’t find in every online wedding planner is that professional coordinators have all the interest to work with large budgets, as the more they spend, the higher their commission. Normally, such professionals charge by the hour, and if you get one that asks $150 per hour, you will pay a small fortune for no more than 40hrs of work.
While an online wedding planner serves for theoretical support in the wedding preparations, the real assistance of family members and friends is unparalleled. Having someone to fully rely on for a number of tasks means a lot, which is why it is important to seek help closer to home. Keep your mind open to suggestions as they can come from books, websites and friends who have recently got married and can share with you the experience of their preparations. Take time to analyze things in detail before deciding for a course of action and only then make important decisions related to your wedding.

Helen asks…
Affordable Wedding Venues in Arizona?
We are on a budget for our wedding and are looking for an ‘as inexpensive as possible’ venue for our ceremony and reception. We are looking at about 200 guests. Does anyone know of any great locations out there? Thank you!
AZwedMan answers:
This isn’t in the Phoenix area. But in Safford, Az you can do it at Discovery Park for $22/hr. They have a building with tables and chairs. The park is really pretty if you go during the spring or summer (before winter, when all the leaves fall off)
http://www.eac.edu/discoverypark/rentals.shtm
Also parks are pretty inexpensive. My aunt did hers for $75 for the whole day, but they had to purchase an alcohol permit, but that was it. This was in downtown Phx I believe.
We are either doing ours at Discovery park, or on Graham mountain (which is free except cost to rent chairs & tables)
Good lucK!

Indoor Wedding Venues In Phoenix, Arizona….Help!?
I am finally getting married after 7 years with the same wonderful man! I live in Phoenix Arizona and I really want to have a full indoor wedding and reception at the same location. I have only found 2 places so far where that is possible (most everything is outdoor.) Does anyone have any ideas on beautiful places? The only other thing that is important to me is that that allow outside vendors. Any help you can offer I would appreciate.

Wedding venue in Phoenix, Arizona?
I’m looking for a wedding venue in Phoenix, Arizona that is indoors, can hold around 100 guests, nice but simple, modestly priced (would like to keep it under 2k) and isn’t a religious facility. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
AZwedMan answers:
Look into restaurants that offer banquet facilities.
There are ideas here:

Also check out the local boards at http://talk.theknot.com since most of the ladies there are on tight budgets.

The Internet abounds in materials about how to deal with wedding planning on a budget, yet from case to case, the concept of financial limitations applies differently. Some people prefer traditional weddings, while others will try some unique form of event just for the sake of making it memorable. Expenses usually add up unexpectedly particularly when you aim at organizing something fanciful. Here are some guidelines to help you best define the idea of wedding planning on a budget before you actually commit to the task.
Lots of money are spent on locations. It is preferable to have both the religious ceremony and the wedding party organized in the same place, otherwise costs will be higher. People with a large enough backyard often consider the possibility of organizing the event locally without having to pay for rent or being tight on a certain date. If this idea is not suitable, check and see whether you can plan the whole event on a beach, in a garden or in some similar outdoor location.
The dress costs a lot particularly for themed events or when you want things done luxuriously. For wedding planning on a budget, a nice cocktail dress will do. You can also rent the wedding dress or have a nice simple gown made especially for the event. Remember that when you have a summer wedding, it is less complicated to cover all the details related to the outfit. Summer weddings can be considered cheaper if judging by overall criteria too.
Save lots of money on decorations. When you have the flower arrangements custom-made you will pay more than if you made them yourself. Why not ask a few friends or family members to help with the task? You will just have to order some fresh flowers from the local market and get them the day prior to the event. When the decorations are ready, spray them with fresh water and have them placed in a cool place. On the wedding day, they will look just as great on the party tables.
More savings tips are available for the invitations, the envelopes and the thank you notes. Wedding planning on a budget can be as special as you like, as long as you have lots of help with people skilled to do things for you. Invitations can be hand-made, printed right at home with quality equipment, particularly when you don’t have more than 100 guests. Part of the menu can also be home-made, when organizing some traditional ethnic wedding party. And the list of suggestions can continue!
Small wedding planning is a lot easier by the less tight social obligations that one has to take into consideration. The number of guests for a small wedding are not higher than 50 people, and they are usually close friends and family members. The atmosphere is more relaxed and nobody is that keen on the etiquette. Moreover, small wedding planning has the advantage of money savings that are not possible with too large events.
Spend money on the things that really matter, such as good videography, a nice dress, good food and drink. Moreover, when the planning is not very complex, it is easier for those people close to you to help with the organization in much more efficient ways. Statistics indicate that small wedding planning causes less stress and more joy for the couple, because there is more time to consult and analyze opinions than in the case of very ample parties.
Even so, the concept of small wedding planning is very relative, because what for some people means small, for others would be medium or large. What you can be certain of is that an event intended to be small from the very beginning, has higher chances of turning out as different from tradition or conventional customs. Hence, you’ll see that the reactions to the plans you make will vary greatly, as will also happen with the event as such.
It is wise to remember that you cannot please everybody and that there are chances for some people to give you negative impressions. What matters most is that you and your would-be-spouse feel content with the decisions you make and the small wedding planning you have in mind. If friends and family members are supportive, you don’t need anything more. Some people will feel left out in all likelihood, but it is important to make your purposes clear as well as your intentions.
Books and online guides can help you with small wedding planning, but not all the ideas you will find available can help you prepare for the big event. Make a careful selection or what is good and practical for your situation and move on. Don’t get upset by grins or by discouraging statements that you won’t get all those great gifts. The way you plan your wedding is your problem, and should represent you well. Therefore, do not worry about negative ratings, because this is not a competition.
Choosing a more peculiar type of wedding leaves room to unique wedding planning but it all depends on personal preference for one kind of event or another. There are very popular themes to be chosen, that can afterwards guide you through coordinating the choice of flowers, decorations, favors, menus and dresses. A special place will have to be arranged for the ceremony and the party so that everything is suitably matched to the theme.
As strange as it may sound, animal wedding themes receive great appreciation among couples who aim at unique wedding planning. From horses, cats, dogs and birds to butterflies, dinosaurs and dolphins, there are many themes to choose from. Let us further exemplify with a butterfly wedding theme. The wedding celebration will get so much richer with multicolor flutter fantasies that will reflect optimism, joy and positive energy. The butterfly pattern will adorn the bride’s wedding dress as well as the decorations in the party hall. It looks delicate and suggestive.
Other inspirational ideas for unique wedding planning are beach wedding themes. Getting married by the ocean with the sun or the moon reflecting in the water gives an unparalleled feeling to any romantic couple. Even with this kind of outdoor wedding you can improvise a lot, toying with numerous symbols and plenty of themes. Tropical environments, nautical elements, seashells, the music of the waves, the breeze and the sand will put a spell on you and your guests.
A celestial theme for unique wedding planning sounds great too when you think that your great day should be magic from all points of view. A beautiful moon and lots of stars fascinate the viewer, and many couples choose to unite in destiny under a starry night sky. Yellow moons, golden stars, twinkling lights against dark cloths can help you create the atmosphere of a great event. A wedding should make you touch the sky, why not literally put this impulse into practice, and get sky closer to you?
Cultural weddings makes one further example of unique wedding planning. There is usually a question of personal heritage and religious celebration that you want to insist on to better define the feeling of belonging to a community. Why not try it from one end to the other?
There will always be something special that you can count on to bring magic to an already blessed event. Do not be afraid to dream and make your dreams come true, and do not start from the premises that unique wedding planning needs a huge budget. You can do just fine with a small but well inspired event too.
Are you stressed out because the big day is getting closer and you haven’t got things ready? Are there many ‘to do’ items’ in ‘my wedding plans’ file? If yes, it means you need to put more work into the organization part. Why not trust a wedding planner with all the nasty details? Just imagine how simple it is to just talk your likes and dislikes through and have someone put your ideas into practice. For a moderate fee, a professional event organizer can save you from lots of stress and sleepless nights.
A planner knows which is the right sequence of events and can start handling things when the time is right. Stop worrying that ‘my wedding plans will go to pieces’ because a pro has gone through the same preparatory stages dozens if not hundreds of times. There are many issues that the event planner can help you with, but most important, she/he will put order in how you handle the event and establish a firm time line to be followed.
Your wedding budget can be a lot more realistic when you know exactly how much you are going to pay for each service, and when the best prices are negotiated on your behalf. Create a list in ‘my wedding plans’ with all the payments due to vendors, but only after making sure that you have got the best discount possible. The menu is usually selected together with the caterer’s representative so that you may be able to discuss any special diets and foods. The wedding planner can be of much service here too, as he/she can make sure that you get the best quality for your budget.
Where to order the wedding cake, the flowers, the table lines and the favors? Such components that you’ll always include in ‘my wedding plans’ take a lot of time and make you hassle over details. These components require careful coordination, and it is best to get professional assistance to cover them from one end to the other. Remember that for someone who organizes events for a living, taking care of wedding tasks is like a second nature.
Finally, if you want a special event, there will be issues in ‘my wedding plans’ that should correspond to your customization requirements. And here we do not refer just to matching the color of the dresses with that of the flower arrangements, but rather to the choice of special music, the selection of thank you gifts and even the table decorations.
The wedding planning reception takes lots of time and great care because it requires a complexity of services. Before shopping around for locations, you need to choose a date and book the hall or the restaurant at least a year in advance. The budget also needs to be planned starting from the date, because the costs for the reception party depend on the season, the month and the time of the week.
In wedding planning, reception costs will be higher for Saturday parties than for Sunday events. Moreover, late spring, summer and early fall months are the most expensive to marry. Halls, restaurants and caterers are willing to grant discounts to people getting married in winter, with two exceptions: the end of December and Valentine’s Day. Why not plan your wedding at the end of January and make considerable savings?
Setting the budget is also crucial for wedding planning. Reception parties add up costs not only for hall and catering but for decorations, flowers, cake, favors and videography. This means that in the light of more detailed analyses we can easily conclude that the reception party is your greatest expense, although not the only one. Do not order too much drink or food; good estimates are essential in order to stick to the budget. This is why you should know the exact number of guests you are expecting.
Many restaurants and halls charge by person. Get a round figure before you start negotiating for the hall, since you won’t be able to estimate the rest of the expenses. Include a confirmation card with all the invitations, asking your guests to confirm their participation to the reception party and the religious ceremony, depending on the case. Then focus on the seatings, because you can further experience difficulties with this part of wedding planning.
Reception details should be put down in checklists so that you do not overlook important aspects. Go through each of them step by step, preferably with help from family and friends. You can discover the right location for your wedding reception by going to other weddings or by reading testimonials. Moreover, there is plenty of information to use from wedding magazines and directories available not only on the Internet but at newsstands too.
Don’t forget about how important music is. The reception hall owner or manager could help you with some recommendations for bands. But you can also shop around, talk to friends and relatives and see whether they can give you some useful hints.
